It's interesting to me that America will fall further behind unless we get serious about technology and keeping our students interested and engaged in education.
The focus on education needs to go back to the individual student and not this idea that one size fits all. Teachers need to focus less on presenting data and comparing student test scores with those of other students across the state. More time spent on getting to know their students and forming relationships that will enable these students to successfully reach their potential or beyod.
I agree with you but there also needs to some way to evaluate a student's progress. We do spend so much time testing students. Second graders are relatively fortunate in that they don't have to take as many standardized tests as other grades. The one test we do take, the SRI, isn't really a test that's indicative of anything. Often I have students who finish the reading test in 5 minutes and do an adequate job on the test and doesn't really indicate their abilities.
